Card game is a specific game played with a pack of playing cards identical in shape and size. Central Asia is supposed to be the first to introduce card games around 10th century. But, newer techniques of card games developed in China. Initially, Europe used traditional Islamic cards with pictures of swords and cup symbols. Soon they were replaced by representations of Kings and Knights. Hand painted cards with beautiful illustrations, traditional designs and fancy cards were quite famous in Spain.
The idea of using simple pictures and designs of spade, diamonds and hearts on playing cards was developed by France and these types of cards are still used by us. England and then America began using these cards in 1800s. Americans invented the Joker that is the highest card in the game of Euchre.
Card Games: Various Types
There were 52 cards in the initial pack of playing cards. Gradually, the number was extended to 78 and then to 97 and more. This gave birth to the idea of Tarot pack. Like all other fields, new trends and ideas entered in the field of card games too. Consequently, designer cards came into scenario replacing the numeral cards.
In card games, players generally fix the deal beforehand and follow certain set of rules while playing. There are various kinds of card games like solitaire, trick taking, gambling, collectible card games etc.
Solitaire is a single player card game. In this, the player has to arrange the cards in a special array. Ace of the Pile, Calculation, Free Cell etc are the famous Solitaire games.
Another type of card game is gambling. It includes Beatable and unbeatable casino games. Poker games, blackjack, Video Poker are beatable casino games. Unbeatable Casino Games include 3- card poker, 4-card Poker, Baccarat, Keno, Roulette etc.
Customizable Card Games
Collectible Card Games are also known as Customizable Card Games. Certain sets of rules are followed for card interaction.
Trick taking game is another famous card game following a different play structure. In this, each player puts one card from his hand. When the trick is over, cards are turned face down and removed from play. The players play according to their physical position and one player gets the lead for each trick. Positive trick taking games, Final trick taking games, Casino etc are the popular trick taking games.
The type of card game to be played is decided on the basis of number of players playing, their interests and skills, rules of the games, its suitability to the playing group and availability of the time. Despite the important involvement of money, it is ultimately the fun factor that rules the game.
