Fulfill the Contract
Fulfill the Contract
Contract Bridge is a trick taking card game, played by four players. It is popularly known as Bridge. It is typically played in the form of partnerships. Dealing, Bidding, Playing and Scoring are the main phases of Bridge. Though the game follows very simple rules and regulations, it still requires a lot of competence on part of the players.
How Is The Game Played?
In this card game, four players sit around a table with partners opposite one another. They play to attain the highest score. For this, these pairs compete for bidding the highest possible number of tricks. Then the highest bidders play to take these proposed numbers of tricks. They get the highest score only when the number of tricks won equals or exceeds the number of tricks bid. If they do not fulfill the contract then the points are awarded to the opponents.
How Is The Game Scored?
The scores or points are given to the highest bidder or declarer for the bid and for the tricks taken above the proposed level. It also includes points for other bonuses. If the declarer does not fulfill the contract then the opponents receive the points for the tricks by which the declarer falls short of the target.
How The Bonuses Are Calculated?
In this card game, different suits like hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs get different bonuses. The bonuses are calculated on the basis of game level. For example, major suits like hearts or spades have 4 as the game level and for minor suits like clubs or diamonds the game level is 5. Any contract on the level of 6 or 7 is called Slam and it gets fat bonuses.
Kinds of Scoring Used In the Game
Rubber scoring and duplicate scoring are the two main kinds of Bridge scoring. They differ in the way the total scores are added. In rubber scoring, the points for each pair are categorized as “above the line” or “below the line”. But, duplicate scoring system works differently. “Chicago” bridge widely uses this type of scoring. In this, all the trick points and bonus points are added up and it eventually gives a single score. This score is then expressed as a positive number to the winning duo and negative number to the rivals.
Whatever kind of bridge it is or whatever kind of scoring it follows, the winners are always those two who dare to bid the highest tricks and take it right on their table.
